Description:

During the experiment, you will listen to sounds over headphones and identify which vowel you hear. Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 39, and must have normal hearing. The experiment will begin with an audiogram test to verify normal hearing. Participants must also speak American English as their first language. The experiment will take place during one hour and a half session, for a total of 4 rep points. Some participants make take up to two hours to complete the experiment, for a total of 5 rep points. The only potential risk (other than boredom) is exposure to loud sounds. We minimize that risk by ensuring that the equipment cannot deliver (even inadvertently) sounds that are outside the bounds considered safe by experts on noise exposure. There are no anticipated direct benefits to participation.
