Title:
Foveal Feedback
Researcher:
Cheryl Olman
Term:
Summer 2026
Description:
Our visual system uses both incoming sensory signals and internal expectations to construct what we see. In this study, participants will complete a series of computer-based visual tasks involving patterns or textures presented on a screen. Participants will make judgments about stimuli occurring near the edge of the screen while maintaining focus at a central fixation point. On some trials, additional patterns or textures will briefly appear at the center of the screen. By evaluating how different contexts change perception, we aim to understand how visual information is processed and integrated across the visual field. This study will take place in Elliott Hall and last about 30-60 minutes per session. Participants must be 18 years of age or older and have normal or corrected-to-normal vision. Risks are minimal and may include temporary eye strain or visual fatigue. Participants will receive 3-4 research participation (REP) points, depending on the time spent.
