- Study 1: All Eyes on A.I. -- Evaluating Young U.S. Citizens' Trust in a Decision-maker based on Decision-maker Type and Context Type
- Researcher:
- Eugene Borgida
- Term:
- Spring 2026
- Description:
- This study is about young U.S. citizens’ attitudes and trust in decision-makers in different everyday and political situations. We are asking participants to take part in this research study because they are an 18-21 year old U.S. citizen who is enrolled in the University of Minnesota’s Psychology Research Experience Program (REP). Participants will be asked to complete a series of online surveys via Qualtrics upon signing up for the study through the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities Psychology Research Experience Program (REP). They will first review and sign a consent form. They will also be asked to confirm that they are a citizen of the United States who is over 18 years old. There are two waves in Study 1. During Wave 1, participants will answer a series of survey items administered via a Qualtrics survey. Wave 1 is expected to take 5-10 minutes to complete. One week later, participants will be asked to complete Wave 2, where they will read a written scenario about a decision-maker going through the decision-making process. After reading their randomly assigned scenario, they will be tasked with evaluating the decision-maker by answering a series of survey items and attitude scales administered via a Qualtrics survey. Wave 2 is expected to take 10-15 minutes to complete. In total, Study 1 is expected to take 15-25 minutes to complete. This study takes place entirely in an online format and is completed on the participants' own time. Study 1 is expected to collect responses from 396 participants in total. If participants agree to take part in this research study, we will pay them using the University of Minnesota’s REP points system, 1 REP point for Wave 1, and 1 REP point for Wave 2 (for a total of 2 REP points for participating in both waves of the research project). There are no potential benefits or foreseeable risks to participants from taking part in this research.
