Title:
Development of a questionnaire to report on a loved one’s mental health
Researcher:
Whitney Ringwald
Term:
Spring 2026
Description:
This research study aims to develop a questionnaire for assessing how people view the thoughts, feelings, and behavior of their close friends and family members. Participation is completely remote and asynchronous. The research study involves completing a one-time online survey about the mental health of a loved one. Survey completion typically takes 60 minutes. To participate, you must be 18 years or older and a student at the University of Minnesota. You must also be able to report on a person you know very well. The person you report on must be over 18 years old and can be a family member, friend, or romantic partner. You must have known this person for over one year and had a real-time conversation with them (e.g., in-person, video chat, phone, text messaging) at least 1x/week in the past year. You will be compensated 2 REP points for completing the survey. Your participation will help us develop a tool to better understand mental health from the people who know a patient best.
