- Title:
- Pre-test #1: All Eyes on A.I. -- Evaluating Young U.S. Citizens' Trust in a Decision-maker based on Decision-maker Type and Context Type
- Researcher:
- Eugene Borgida
- Term:
- Fall 2025
- Description:
- Pre-test #1 is conducted in an entirely online format and is completed by participants on their own time. In total, Pre-test #1 is expected to take about 15 minutes to complete. Participants will be asked to complete a series of surveys via Qualtrics upon signing up for the study through the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities Psychology Research Experience Program (REP). Participants will first review and sign a consent form. They will also be asked to confirm that they are a citizen of the United States who is over 18 years old. During Pre-test #1, participants will read a series of four scenarios presented via an online Qualtrics survey. Each written scenario will be of a decision-maker going through a decision-making process. After reading each scenario, participants will be asked to answer a series of survey items and comprehension scales administered via a Qualtrics survey. Pre-test #1 is the first of three tests administered in this study. For this study, there are three parts in total, each using a different sample of participants: Pre-test #1, Pre-test #2, and Study 1. Pre-test #1 is expected to collect responses from 25 participants in total. Its primary purpose is to evaluate the consistency of the proposed scenarios used in the test conditions across seven dimensions: a) comprehension, b) engagement, c) interest, d) plausibility, e) level of attention, f) relevance, and g) degree of decision-maker agency. These scales are intended to establish a reliable, consistent set of scenarios to be used in Study 1; Pre-test #1 will determine whether these scenarios and measures need to be revised. We are asking participants to take part in this research study because they are an 18-21 year old U.S. citizen who is enrolled in the University of Minnesota’s Psychology Research Experience Program (REP). If participants agree to take part in this research study, we will pay them using the University of Minnesota’s REP points system: 1 REP point for Pre-test #1. There are no potential benefits or foreseeable risks to participants from taking part in this research.
