Description:

During the experiment, you will listen to sounds over a loudspeaker and identify which vowel you hear. Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 39, and must have normal hearing. The experiment will begin with an audiogram test to verify normal hearing. Participants must also speak American English as their first language. Most participants will likely finish the experiment in one two-hour session, for a total of 5 rep points. The only potential risk (other than boredom) is exposure to loud sounds. We minimize that risk by ensuring that the equipment cannot deliver (even inadvertently) sounds that are outside the bounds considered safe by experts on noise exposure. There are no anticipated direct benefits to participation.
