Term:
Fall 2024
Description:
In this study, we are conducting research to investigate how people search for sexual identity information on search engines. We are specifically interested in how people in the LGBTQIA+ community look for such resources, but all are welcome to participate! We are particularly looking for participants who identify as men or racially/ethnically diverse. The following is a summary to help you decide whether or not to be a part of this research study. Online sources of information are crucial to the ways that people come to understand their own identities. This is particularly important for LGBTQIA+ people who face stigma and barriers to accessing information offline, so they often turn to online information. We are doing research on how people search for information about their sexual identities on search engines. It is important to investigate this to understand how people use search engines like Google Search and make suggestions on how to improve them to make finding information easier. You will be asked to fill out a survey to collect consent and demographic information. If you agree to participate, we will arrange a time for us to have you complete an online lab study. We will ask you to complete 2 search tasks using our provided interface and to talk through your thought process while doing so. The screen and audio will be recorded. You will need a laptop/computer to complete this study. The study should take 30~45 minutes. You can choose either 2 points or a $15 eGift card.
